We get this one regularly. The Kodiaq iV carries a plug-in hybrid badge, but it still runs a petrol engine alongside the battery, so it doesn't meet the zero-emission test the green flash is tied to. It's an easy mix-up given the "iV" naming, and we'd rather tell you upfront than let you order a badge that doesn't apply to your car.
Scenario: matching a new plate to an existing Skoda surround
If you're only replacing one plate, say the front, after a parking knock, it's worth measuring your existing surround before ordering fitting hardware. That's not a reason to avoid 3D Gel or 4D on an Octavia or Enyaq you've chosen to put through hand washing or softer touchless washes, but if low maintenance matters more to you than looks, Standard is the more sensible call. It's also the right choice if you're replacing a plate on a Citigo, Yeti or Rapid purely to pass an MOT check, rather than to change how the car looks.
Are 4D and gel plates road legal on a Skoda?
Yes, provided they're ordered through our Road Legal builder. The raised or gel layer sits on top of the registration, it doesn't change the character spacing, size or reflectivity that make a plate road legal, all of which stay identical across our seven finishes. Our road legal plates are made to the DVLA's published rules (BS AU 145e), and we check ID and entitlement documents before we make one. The spacing and proportions matter more than most buyers expect, a plate with characters that are too tight, too wide, or styled in an unapproved font can fail an ANPR camera read even if it looks fine to the eye, which tends to surface at the worst time, a routine camera check rather than a planned inspection.
