Replacement Number Plate for Mercedes-Benz

Need a replacement number plate for your Mercedes-Benz? We make road legal plates for every current model, from A-Class to S-Class, built to BS AU 145e in all seven of our finishes, at the single 520mm x 111mm size fitted across the range. Same-day dispatch if you order before 2pm.

Which Mercedes-Benz models we cover

Every plate we make is the same 520mm x 111mm size, front and rear, so fitment comes down to the recess and trim on each car, not a size choice.

Compact executive (A-Class, B-Class, CLA): a standard bumper recess. Any finish fits without issue, though the CLA's lower nose sits closer to the ground and picks up more road grime.

Saloon and estate (C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS): a deep, forward-set front recess, particularly on the S-Class and E-Class, which comfortably accepts even the deepest options, the 5D Gel 5mm and Black Diamond.

SUV (GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS): generous clearance front and rear. We rarely hear of fitment issues here, drilled or adhesive.

Electric (EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, EQS): fitment matches the equivalent combustion model, since the EV drivetrain does not affect the plate mount. The EQS front panel is smoother than the S-Class it is based on, so check whether your current plate is adhesive-mounted before ordering.

Performance and coupe (SL, AMG GT, and AMG variants across the range): the SL and AMG GT have a lower, more angled front splitter, where a flatter finish sits with less visual interruption. AMG variants of C-Class, E-Class and GLC often carry a deeper splitter, bringing the plate closer to the road, a cleaning consideration rather than a fitment barrier.

Fitting a replacement plate on a Mercedes-Benz, step by step

Check how your existing plate is fixed before you order. Mercedes-Benz uses both drilled and adhesive-backed mounting depending on model and trim, and mixing up the two is a common cause of delay.

  1. Check the current fixing method. Two visible screw heads mean it is drilled. A flush plate with no visible fixings is adhesive-mounted.

  2. Match your screw size if drilled. UK plates typically use 5mm or 6mm plastic-topped screws, white front, yellow rear. Screws in good condition can usually be reused.

  3. Use adhesive pads on painted or trim-covered areas. This suits AMG bodykits and some EQ models, since drilling into painted bodywork is harder to undo neatly if you sell the car.

  4. Do not over-tighten screws on a raised finish. Our 4D and gel plates sit slightly proud of the mount. Over-tightening can bow the plate face.

Which finish suits which Mercedes-Benz

This comes down to taste and how the car is used, not a rule. AMG and performance variants tend to suit the 4D 5mm, 4D Gel 3mm, 5D Gel 5mm or Black Diamond finishes, since the raised, layered character depth reads well against a car built around presence and detail.

S-Class and E-Class models often suit the more restrained Standard or 3D Gel finish, in keeping with the understated positioning these models are usually bought for. A deep 5D Gel plate looks sharp but is a deliberate statement on a car many owners choose because it does not shout.

EQ electric owners frequently lean toward the cleaner Standard or 3D Gel look, closer to the minimal EQ design language. A buyer pattern, not a fitment restriction, any of the seven finishes fits an EQ model.

Caring for your plate on a Mercedes-Benz

AMG owners are more likely than most to use a hand car wash or detailing site regularly, and high-pressure water at close range can catch the edge of a raised gel dome or 4D acrylic character. If your car is washed weekly at such a site, mention the plate to whoever is washing it, or choose a flatter finish such as Standard or 3D Gel instead.

A flat Standard plate is the easiest to keep pristine on a daily-driven C-Class or E-Class, since there is no raised edge for brake dust to sit against. A plate cloth and a rinse before wiping keeps the reflective background performing at night, which matters for ANPR and MOT readability.

Common mistakes Mercedes-Benz owners make when ordering a replacement plate

  • Ordering before checking the fixing method. Assuming drilled when it is adhesive-mounted, or the reverse, is the most frequent cause of delay.

  • Not accounting for the AMG splitter position. A deeper splitter changes where the plate sits visually, not a fault, just a common surprise on arrival.

  • Assuming every finish looks the same in a photo as in person. Raised finishes photograph differently depending on light. Check real customer photos on our reviews page or gallery first.

Road legal compliance for Replacement Number Plate for Mercedes-Benz

BS AU 145e is the mandatory UK standard, in force since 1 September 2021: 79mm character height, 50mm width (except 1 and I), 14mm stroke, 11mm character spacing, a 33mm age-identifier gap, and 11mm margins, on a white retroreflective front background and yellow rear, single solid black characters, with the supplier's name and postcode shown. A plate built correctly to this spec, with the right spacing, font and reflectivity, is also what keeps it machine-readable by ANPR cameras.

Your Mercedes-Benz's factory-fitted plate is normally already built to this specification, so the safest approach is to match it exactly. A non-conforming plate can trigger an MOT advisory or failure even if it looks correct at a glance. We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.

FAQs for Replacement Number Plate for Mercedes-Benz

1. Do 4D or 5D Gel plates fit an AMG front splitter without rubbing?

Yes. The raised character depth does not add enough thickness to cause clearance issues. The real consideration with AMG models is visual position against the deeper splitter, not physical fit.

2. Is my Mercedes-Benz plate drilled or adhesive-mounted?

Two visible screw heads mean it is drilled. A flush plate with no visible fixings is adhesive-mounted. Many AMG bodykit and EQ models use adhesive pads on painted or trim-covered areas.

3. Will a replacement plate pass my Mercedes-Benz's next MOT?

It will if it is built to BS AU 145e, the current mandatory standard, with correct character height, spacing and reflectivity. All seven finishes are made to this specification.

4. Can I fit a raised 4D or gel plate myself, or does it need a garage?

Most owners fit these themselves using the same screw or adhesive method as the original plate. Just avoid over-tightening, since the plate sits slightly proud of the mount.

5. Does the plate size differ between Mercedes-Benz models?

No. We supply one size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear, fitting the recess on every current model from A-Class to S-Class.
