Replacement Number Plate for Honda

If you drive a Honda and need a replacement plate, cracked, faded, or just an upgrade, the key fact is this: every Honda from a Jazz to the new e:Ny1 takes the same size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear. There is no special Honda fitment, no short or square option. What needs thought is the finish, whether your Honda qualifies for a green flash, and getting the legal side right.

Which Honda models we cover

We supply plates for the full current range: Jazz, Civic, HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V, all sold as hybrids under Honda's e:HEV badge, with the CR-V also available as plug-in hybrid, e:PHEV. We also cover the e:Ny1, Honda's current fully electric SUV, and the older Honda e, discontinued in the UK and Europe in 2024 but still on the road and a normal customer for us. For the incoming 0 Series, the 0 Saloon and 0 SUV, we will supply once they appear on UK roads, though as newly launching models we lack direct fitting experience.

Fitting a replacement plate on a Honda, step by step

We have not identified a documented Honda specific fitting quirk, and would rather say that plainly than invent one. The sensible approach for most modern cars:

  1. Clean the area around the existing plate and let it dry fully, since dust or moisture weakens the hold.
  2. Remove the old plate, noting whether it uses pads, screws, or a snap-fit bracket, as Honda varies its mounting across models.
  3. Offer up the new plate first, checking it sits level and central, then fix using the same method as before, brackets stay brackets, stuck-on plates get fresh pads.
  4. Press firmly for thirty seconds if using pads, longer in cold weather, then push-test top, bottom and sides before driving off.

If your Honda has a plate holder built into the bumper trim, as some HR-V and ZR-V models do, take care not to force it in.

Which finish suits which Honda

A Civic, especially with styling cues shared with the Type R line, carries a bolder finish well: 4D or 4D Gel adds a raised character suited to sportier styling. The CR-V and ZR-V are family SUVs, where a cleaner Standard or 3D Gel finish suits the practical image owners want. The Jazz is a small, everyday car, and Standard or 3D Gel keeps things simple. On the e:Ny1, many EV owners like a finish that reads as modern, and 4D or 5D Gel tends to suit that. None of this is about legality, every finish meets BS AU 145e, it is purely the look.

The EV green flash option, and why "e:HEV" does not mean electric

A green flash plate is a small green rectangle on the left of the plate, reserved for genuinely zero emission vehicles, fully electric cars running on a battery alone. In the current range that means the e:Ny1 qualifies. The discontinued Honda e was also fully electric and would have qualified, and the upcoming 0 Saloon and 0 SUV are expected to qualify too, though check the spec before ordering since they are only just arriving.

Worth being clear on: Honda's e:HEV and e:PHEV badges look like they might mean electric, because of the "e", but they do not. e:HEV is Honda's hybrid system, e:PHEV is plug-in hybrid, neither is zero emission, so the Jazz, Civic, HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V are not eligible. This trips people up more than almost anything else in the ordering process.

Any practical benefit, such as reduced low emission zone charges, depends on the council, so check locally rather than assume a saving.

Caring for your plate Replacement Number Plate for Honda

Keep the plate clean with normal car washing. If you use a jet wash, keep the nozzle at a sensible distance rather than blasting close up, particularly on a raised finish like 4D or 5D Gel, where edge detail is more exposed than on a flat Standard plate. Avoid abrasive pads or strong solvents, a soft cloth and shampoo is enough.

Common mistakes owners make when ordering a Replacement Number Plate for Honda

  • Assuming an e:HEV or e:PHEV Honda, such as the Civic, CR-V or Jazz, qualifies for a green flash plate because of the "e" in the name. Only genuinely zero emission models like the e:Ny1 qualify.
  • Ordering without checking the registration is entered correctly, since spacing and character rules must be exact.
  • Assuming a show style finish is fine for daily road use without checking it meets BS AU 145e.
  • Not checking the old plate's fitting method before ordering brackets or pads.

Road legal compliance

Every road legal plate we make is built to BS AU 145e, in force in the UK since 1 September 2021: 79mm character height, 50mm character width (except the numeral 1 and letter I), 14mm stroke width, 11mm spacing between characters, a 33mm gap before the age identifier, 11mm margins, white retroreflective background at the front and yellow at the rear, single solid black characters only. Raised, gel and diamond cut finishes are dimensional, not a colour effect, so they remain compliant when built correctly. Every plate carries our name and postcode as the supplier, as required. A plate built correctly to this standard, with the right spacing, font and reflectivity, is also what keeps it reliably machine-readable by ANPR cameras.

We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.

FAQs about Replacement Number Plate for Honda

Q: Does my e:HEV Honda qualify for a green flash plate?

No. e:HEV is a hybrid system, not fully electric, so e:HEV or e:PHEV models, including the Jazz, Civic, HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V, do not qualify. Only genuinely zero emission models, such as the e:Ny1, are eligible.

Q: What size plate does my Honda need?

The standard UK size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear, for every model.

Q: Can I fit a 4D or Gel plate to a Honda myself?

Yes, most owners fit it using the same method as the old plate. A local garage can help if unsure.

Q: Are 4D or Gel plates road legal on a Honda?

Yes, provided they meet BS AU 145e. The raised finish is dimensional, not a colour, so compliance is unaffected.

Q: I have an older Honda e, can you still make a replacement plate?

Yes. It was discontinued in 2024, but we can supply a like for like replacement, including green flash, since it was genuinely zero emission.
