A Standard or 3D Gel plate keeps the factory look intact and suits the Polestar 2 particularly well, where the brand's minimalism is most pronounced. That said, plenty of owners want more visual depth, and there is nothing wrong with that on any Polestar. 4D and 5D Gel finishes add genuine dimension and catch light differently, which some feel suits the larger presence of the 3 and 4 better than the smaller 2. Black Diamond has also become popular on the 3 and 4, where the darker, faceted finish sits well against a bigger, more upright front end. Raised finishes such as gel, 4D or diamond-cut are dimensional rather than colour effects, so they remain within these rules, and every plate we supply carries our name and postcode, as required.

A plate built correctly to BS AU 145e, with the right spacing, font and reflectivity, is also what keeps it reliably readable by ANPR cameras.
