Need a replacement number plate for a Vauxhall, current Corsa to older Insignia? Legal & Show Plates makes them in seven finishes, all at the standard UK size of 520mm x 111mm, front and rear, with same-day dispatch before 2pm.
Which Vauxhall models we cover
Every plate we make is cut to the same 520mm x 111mm size, so there's no guessing which size your Vauxhall needs. What changes is the nameplate you're driving, and several current Vauxhalls come in both combustion and fully electric form under the same badge, which matters later when we get to green flash plates.
The current range covers the Corsa (petrol, hybrid and Corsa Electric), Mokka (petrol, hybrid and Mokka Electric), Frontera (hybrid and Frontera Electric), Grandland (petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and Grandland Electric), and Astra with the Astra Sports Tourer estate (petrol, hybrid and Astra Electric or Astra Sports Tourer Electric). All take a standard plate and are straightforward to fit.
We also get steady orders for models Vauxhall no longer sells new. The Insignia, discontinued in the UK in 2022, is still common on the road, and owners come to us when a plate cracks or fades. The Zafira, Vauxhall's long-running family MPV, is discontinued but common too, and earlier-generation Astras and Corsas remain some of the most numerous cars on UK roads, so if you're running one, you're far from alone in needing a replacement.
Fitting a replacement plate on a Vauxhall, step by step
Fitting is straightforward across the current and older range, we haven't found a model-specific quirk that trips people up:
- Check whether your existing plate is on screws through drilled holes, or adhesive pads, and note hole positions before removing it.
- Remove the old plate carefully. If adhesive-fixed, warm it slightly (a hairdryer on low heat) to soften the pads before peeling it off, then clean the surface of old residue.
- Self-tapping number plate screws in a common size (usually 4mm) suit the plastic plinths on most current Vauxhalls.
- Offer the new plate up, check it's level and square, fix it, then push each corner to check it's secure before driving off.

Which finish suits which Vauxhall
A Corsa or Mokka in a bright colour carries a Standard or 3D Gel plate well, the raised lettering adds definition without looking out of place on an everyday-smart car. On a Grandland or Astra Sports Tourer, larger, more grown-up shapes, a 4D 5mm or 4D Gel 3mm plate reads as a subtle upgrade, the extra depth catches the light nicely on a longer bonnet without shouting about it. On a darker Frontera or Grandland, the 5D Gel 5mm or Black Diamond finish gives the strongest shadow line, for an owner who wants the plate to be part of the car's presence.
The EV green flash option for electric Vauxhalls
This is the part to get right if you're ordering for an electric Vauxhall. The green flash, a small green rectangle on the left of the plate, is only for genuinely zero-emission vehicles, meaning fully electric, never hybrids or plug-in hybrids.
The catch with Vauxhall specifically is that Corsa, Mokka, Frontera and Grandland all exist in electric and non-electric form under the exact same model name, a Grandland can be petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or Grandland Electric. Ordering "a green flash plate for my Corsa" without checking the badge is an easy mistake, the model name alone doesn't tell you the drivetrain. Only order one if your car is specifically the Electric-badged version: Corsa Electric, Mokka Electric, Frontera Electric, Grandland Electric, Astra Electric or Astra Sports Tourer Electric.
Any parking or low-emission-zone benefit tied to the green flash also varies by council, some recognise it, many don't. Check locally rather than assuming a saving.
Caring for your plate on a Vauxhall
Wash your plate with the same care as the rest of the bodywork, a soft cloth and mild car shampoo is enough for all seven finishes. Avoid a pressure washer pointed directly at the plate from close range, particularly on the raised 4D and 5D gel finishes, as concentrated jets can work at the edges of raised lettering over time. Check fixings occasionally to make sure nothing has worked loose.
Common mistakes Vauxhall owners make when ordering a replacement plate
- Assuming any Corsa, Mokka, Grandland or Astra qualifies for a green flash plate without checking it's the Electric-badged variant.
- Not checking whether the old plate is screwed or stuck on before ordering fixings.
- Ordering just one plate when both front and rear need replacing.
- Forgetting the registration must match the V5C exactly, including spacing.
- Assuming a discontinued Insignia or Zafira needs a special size, when it takes the same 520mm x 111mm plate as the current range.
Road legal compliance
All of our road legal finishes are built to BS AU 145e, the standard applying since 1 September 2021: 79mm character height, 50mm width (the numeral 1 and letter I are narrower), 14mm stroke width, 11mm spacing between characters, a 33mm gap before the age identifier, and 11mm margins, on white retroreflective background at the front and yellow at the rear, in single solid black characters. The raised finishes, 3D Gel, 4D and 5D Gel, and Black Diamond, are dimensional rather than coloured, so they stay compliant, the standard covers shape and depth, not just flat printing. This precision matters beyond the MOT bay too, correct spacing, font and reflectivity are what keep a plate machine-readable by ANPR cameras used for enforcement and traffic monitoring. Every plate carries our supplier name and postcode.
We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.

FAQs about Replacement Number Plate for Vauxhall
Q: Do I need to give my V5C details when ordering a replacement plate for my Vauxhall?
Yes, road legal plates require valid proof of registration and identity, matching your V5C, before we can make and dispatch them.
Q: Can I put a green flash on my Grandland?
Only if it's specifically the Grandland Electric. The plain Grandland and the plug-in hybrid version aren't zero-emission, so they don't qualify.
Q: Is a 4D or gel finish still road legal on a Vauxhall?
Yes, when made to BS AU 145e. The raised finishes are dimensional, not coloured, so they meet the same font, spacing and reflectivity rules as a flat plate.
Q: Will a replacement plate fit my older Astra or Corsa the same as a current one?
Yes, fitment is straightforward across current and older Vauxhall models, no separate size or bracket needed.
Q: How quickly will my Vauxhall plate arrive?
Same-day dispatch before 2pm, then 1 to 3 working days with Royal Mail, with a tracked 24 hour option available.
