Replacement Number Plate for Peugeot

If you drive a Peugeot and need a replacement plate, get the name right before you order. Peugeot sells almost every core model in two versions under the same badge: a petrol or hybrid version with the plain name, and a fully electric version with an "e-" in front of it. A 2008 and an e-2008 are different cars for plate purposes, particularly for the green flash. Sort the naming first and the rest is simple: one plate size for every Peugeot, seven finishes, same-day dispatch before 2pm.

Which Peugeot models we cover

We build replacement plates for the full current Peugeot range at the one size the DVLA requires, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear: the 208 and e-208, 2008 and e-2008, 308 and e-308, 408 and e-408, 3008 and e-3008, 5008 and e-5008, and Rifter and e-Rifter. Each pair shares a bodyshell and plate recess, so fitting is identical whichever drivetrain sits under the bonnet.

We also fit orders for Peugeots no longer sold new here. The 508 saloon and estate, including the PSE performance version, was discontinued in 2025 as Peugeot shifts towards EVs, but plenty remain on the road. The 108 city car, built alongside the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo, was dropped some years earlier and is still common. An older Peugeot doesn't change how we make or fit your plate.

Fitting a replacement plate on a Peugeot, step by step

We haven't found a documented Peugeot-specific fitting quirk. Aftermarket sellers do stock Peugeot-shaped 3D embossed surrounds, hinting the recess isn't perfectly generic across every model, but we'd rather say that plainly than invent detail we can't back up. Most owners manage a straightforward swap:

  1. Remove the old plate, noting whether it's held with screws, pads, or both.
  2. Clean the recess. Old adhesive residue is the main reason a new plate won't sit flat.
  3. Offer the new plate up dry first to check holes line up, or where pads will sit.
  4. Fit with the same method as before. Screws hold better long-term than pads alone, especially through winter.
  5. Check the plate sits flush, with no gap for water or dirt behind it.

If unsure, a local garage or tyre fitter can usually swap a plate in minutes for a small fee.

Which finish suits which Peugeot

The bigger, more upright models, the 3008, 5008 and 408, carry more visual weight at the front and suit a plate with real presence, where 4D Gel or Black Diamond tend to work best. The 208 and 2008 are smaller, everyday cars for most owners, and a clean Standard or 3D Gel plate often suits that better than a heavily raised finish, particularly if the car gets washed weekly. The Rifter, a practical, load-carrying model, tends to get chosen on the same basis: tidy and durable over dramatic.

The EV green flash option, and Peugeot's "e-" naming

Read this carefully before you order. The green flash, a small green rectangle on the left of the plate, is only for genuinely zero-emission vehicles, meaning fully battery electric. It is not for hybrids or plug-in hybrids, however efficient they are.

Peugeot's naming makes this easy to get wrong. Nearly every current model exists in two forms under the same base name: a 208 and an e-208, a 3008 and an e-3008, and so on. The plain name alone tells you nothing about the drivetrain, since it covers the petrol/hybrid version and is also how owners often shorten the electric version in conversation. Only the "e-" prefix confirms the car is fully electric. An e-208 qualifies for a green flash plate; a standard 208, even a hybrid one, does not. The same applies to every other pairing in the range.

Any parking or low-emission-zone benefit depends on the local council, so check locally rather than assume a saving.

Caring for your plate on a Peugeot

Keep the plate clean with a normal car wash and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads on raised or gel finishes. With a jet wash, keep the nozzle at a sensible distance rather than blasting straight at the edges, where raised finishes are most likely to lift over time. Check periodically that screws haven't worked loose, particularly on the Rifter given its use as a family or trade vehicle.

Common mistakes owners make when ordering a Replacement Number Plate for Peugeot

  • Ordering a green flash plate for a plain-named model (a 3008 rather than an e-3008) without checking the car is actually fully electric.
  • Assuming a smaller plate exists for the 208 because it's a smaller car. Every Peugeot takes the same 520mm x 111mm size.
  • Not checking the current plate's fitting method before ordering, then finding the new plate needs different fixings.
  • Choosing a heavily raised finish for a car that gets jet-washed weekly, then finding the edge wears sooner than expected.

Road legal compliance

Every plate we sell for road use is built to BS AU 145e, the mandatory UK standard since 1 September 2021, covering character height, width, stroke width and spacing, the white front and yellow rear retroreflective background, solid black characters, and the supplier name and postcode on the plate. Raised, gel and diamond-cut finishes are dimensional rather than a colour effect, so they remain compliant when built correctly. A plate built correctly to BS AU 145e, with the right spacing, font and reflectivity, is also what keeps it reliably machine-readable by ANPR cameras.

We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.

FAQs about Replacement Number Plate for Peugeot

Q: Do I need to know if my Peugeot is petrol or electric before ordering?

Only if you want a green flash plate, reserved for fully electric "e-" models. Check your car's badge first.

Q: What does the "e-" in front of a Peugeot model name mean?

That version is fully electric. The plain name, like 208 or 3008, covers the petrol or hybrid version, so "e-" is the only reliable way to tell them apart on paper.

Q: Is there a smaller plate size for smaller Peugeots like the 208?

No. Every Peugeot plate is made at the single UK standard size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear.

Q: Can I get a replacement plate for an older Peugeot like the 108 or 508?

Yes. Both were discontinued from Peugeot's new-car range but remain common, and we can build a compliant replacement for either.

Q: Will a green flash plate guarantee free parking or lower charges?

No. Any local benefit depends on your council or the scheme in question, so check locally rather than assume it.
