Alpine Number Plates: Replacements for the A110, A290 and A390
We make replacement plates for Alpine as a front and rear set, or as a single plate. Every plate is one size, 520mm x 111mm, and a pair starts at £25. Alpine has sold only a handful of models in the UK, so we have set this page out in the order they arrived and marked clearly what is only announced.
Alpine number plates in the UK: what is on the road and what is only announced
Three Alpine road cars matter for a plate order. A fourth is only a promise.
- A110 (petrol): on sale in the UK from June 2018, production ended around July 2026.
- A290 (electric): UK orders opened in January 2025.
- A390 (electric): UK orders opened in April 2026.
- Electric A110 successor: shown as a prototype, not on sale.
Alpine A110 number plates now that petrol production has ended
You can still order for any A110. A plate belongs to your registration, not to the build date, so although production of the petrol car ended around July 2026, every registered car staying on the road can have a fresh set.
- A cracked or faded plate can simply be replaced with a straight pair.
- A display-only set for events is a custom show plate, which never goes on the road.
Alpine A290 number plates: the electric hot hatch with orders open since January 2025
The A290 is a five-door electric hot hatch with a 52kWh battery. UK orders opened in January 2025, with trims running from GT up to a limited Premiere Edition. It is fully battery electric, so it can carry a green flash.
- Our colour badged number plates page shows the badge options.
- Standard or 3D Gel keeps it close to the showroom car.
Alpine A390 number plates: the electric fastback with orders open since April 2026
The A390 is a five-door, five-seat electric fastback with an 89kWh battery. UK pre-orders opened on 1 April 2026 and general orders on 16 April 2026. Being pure battery electric, it is allowed a green flash.
- Order once the car is registered, and check the registration against your V5C.
- Badges and borders are free in road legal mode.
The electric A110 successor: why there are no number plates to order for it yet
Alpine showed an electric successor to the A110 as a prototype at Goodwood in 2026. A prototype has no registration, so there is nothing for us to make.
- Known: a two-door electric sports coupe, shown in 2026.
- Not known: its UK on-sale date or price.
Older Alpine number plates: the GTA, the A610 and imported A110s
Two older kinds of Alpine turn up now and then. Neither is common. The age of the car changes the plate rules.
- GTA and A610: right-hand drive GTAs reached the UK in 1986, sold here as the Renault GTA, and the A610 took over in 1991. Both were built after 1 January 1980, so road plates must be white at the front and yellow at the rear.
- Original A110 Berlinette, built 1961 to 1977: it was not sold new in the UK, so one here would be a private import. Because it was built before 1 January 1980, black and silver plates may be allowed under DVLA historic vehicle conditions, as our black and silver number plates article explains.
Which finish suits your Alpine number plates?
Dark paint shows the shadow of a raised character clearly, while white and silver cars often look cleaner with a flatter plate. Depth matters. 5D Gel needs the most room.
- Dark A110 for weekend drives: 4D 5mm at £50 a pair, 5D Gel at £64 or Black Diamond at £60 (usually £75).
- White or silver A110: Standard at £25 or 3D Gel at £38.
- A290 or A390 for daily use: Standard or 3D Gel, with a green flash if you like. Want it sportier? Try 4D 5mm.
Green flash number plates for Alpine: only the A290 and A390 qualify
A green flash marks a zero-emission car, and only a pure battery electric car qualifies. On an Alpine, that means the A290 and the A390. The A110 is petrol and never qualifies, and nor do the GTA, the A610 or the original A110. Any local benefit depends on your council, so we promise no saving.
- Type your registration into the builder and choose ROAD LEGAL.
- Pick a style, then the plain green flash from the badge list.
- Check the live preview before you pay.
BS AU 145e on an Alpine: how much of a 520mm plate does your registration use?
BS AU 145e is the rulebook for road plates, and the gov.uk number plate rules cover the layout. Each character stands 79mm tall with a 14mm stroke, and is 50mm wide unless it is a 1 or an I. Characters sit 11mm apart, a 33mm gap follows the age identifier, and the margins are 11mm.
Try a made-up registration, AL68 RKT. It has seven characters and no 1 or I, so the characters take 350mm. Five 11mm gaps and one 33mm gap add another 88mm, which makes 438mm. The two margins add 22mm, so you need 460mm and have 60mm spare on a 520mm plate. In road legal mode the builder sets the spacing for you, so AL68RKT appears as AL68 RKT.
Two Alpine number plate scenarios with real prices
These are worked examples, not customer stories.
- Scenario one: a dark A110 kept for weekends, with an owner who wants the deepest look. 5D Gel is £64 a pair and 4D 5mm is £50, a gap of £14. If the recess has room, take 5D Gel. If it looks tight, take 4D 5mm.
- Scenario two: an A290 used every day, with a green flash wanted. A 3D Gel pair at £38 clears our £30 free delivery line. A Standard pair at £25 does not.
Fitting Alpine number plates: measure your own car, then use screws
Screws are the more reliable fix, so we point people to them first. Sticky pads suit a smooth, flat panel in normal weather. Our fitting guide covers both.
- Measure your own car, not a figure you read online: the width, height and depth of the recess and surround, against 520mm x 111mm.
- Choose screws or pads and add a fitting kit if you want one. Clean and dry the panel, then fit the plate.
- Wipe raised finishes gently with a soft cloth afterwards.
Which Alpine number plates should you order?
Measure first. Then pick a finish to suit your paint rather than the dearest one. A dark A110 looks good in 4D 5mm, and 5D Gel is there if you want the deepest look and have the room. A white or silver car does well with Standard or 3D Gel. The A290 and A390 suit the same two styles with a green flash, and a GTA or A610 would often sit best in Standard.

Alpine number plate questions we get most often
Q: Are 4D number plates legal on an Alpine A110?
A 4D plate can be road legal if it meets the rules. Ours are made to BS AU 145e in road legal mode, with the spacing and font set for you. Show mode plates are display only, so use road legal mode for any A110 you drive.
Q: Does the Alpine A290 get a green number plate?
Yes, as an option. It is fully electric, so it qualifies. Choose road legal mode in the builder and pick the plain green flash from the badge list, or choose no badge at all. The live preview shows the result before you pay.
Q: Can I add a green flash to an Alpine A110?
No. The A110 has a petrol engine, so it does not qualify. The same goes for the GTA, the A610 and the original A110. Only pure battery electric cars can have one, which on an Alpine means the A290 and A390. Hybrids of any kind are ruled out.
Q: Can I get a replacement number plate for an Alpine A110 that is out of production?
Yes. A plate belongs to the registration, so the end of production makes no difference. Enter your registration in the builder and pick road legal or show. For a road legal plate we check ID and entitlement documents before we make it.
Q: What size number plate does an Alpine take?
We make one size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear. Measure the recess and surround on your own car against that, and check the depth if you want a raised finish. If the numbers leave you unsure, ring us on 07747 744407 before you order.
Q: How do I avoid mistakes when ordering Alpine number plates?
Check the registration against your V5C before you pay. Two slips catch people most: the letter O typed as a zero, and the letter I typed as a one. Read it back slowly, then look at the preview. We pick up some errors before dispatch, but the last check is yours.
Q: Can I order just one front or rear Alpine number plate?
Yes. Set the other quantity to zero in the builder. A single Standard plate is £15 and a single 3D Gel is £20, so both fall under our £30 free delivery line. Single plates are handy when only one is damaged.
