Replacement Number Plate for Porsche
Need a replacement plate for your Porsche? We make road legal plates for the current UK range, 911, 718 Cayman, 718 Boxster, Panamera, Cayenne, Macan and the fully electric Taycan, built to BS AU 145e in all seven styles. Fitment varies by model, the 911 and 718 cars have a tighter front recess than the SUVs, and the Taycan is the only model eligible for the EV green flash.
Which Porsche models we cover
We supply plates for the whole current UK Porsche line-up, split across three groups with different fitment characteristics.
The sports cars, 911 and 718 Cayman and Boxster, share a shallower, more compact front plate recess than the rest of the range. Not an issue with a flat finish, but worth checking before a raised style, a 4D or Black Diamond plate has real depth, and on these two models it needs to sit flush against a tighter opening. A close, well-trimmed fit matters more here than on any other Porsche.
The grand tourer and SUV range, Panamera, Cayenne and Macan, has noticeably more generous clearance and rarely needs special attention regardless of finish. The Taycan's front panel is closer in design to the Panamera than to the sports cars, so it shares that same decent clearance, and it is the only current model eligible for the green flash, covered below.
Fitting a replacement plate on a Porsche, step by step
- Check how your current plate is fixed, screws into the bumper or a plate holder, most Porsches use the former rather than adhesive pads.
- Note the screw size if drilling, UK plates typically use 5mm or 6mm self-tappers, but match what was already fitted.
- Ordering a raised finish for a 911 or 718? Check your front recess depth first, the shallower opening means it needs to sit flush rather than proud.
- Panamera, Cayenne, Macan and Taycan owners have more room to work with, so any style fits without special consideration.
- We do not pre-drill as standard, so holes can be positioned to match your existing mounting, or an adhesive holder fitted instead.
Which finish suits which Porsche
911 and 718 owners frequently go for the more dramatic 5D Gel or Black Diamond finish, matching the plate's presence to the car itself.
Cayenne and Macan owners tend to split down the middle, some choose the same bold look, others prefer a more understated Standard or 3D Gel finish, often depending on whether the car is a daily driver or a weekend car.
The EV green flash option for the Taycan
The green flash is a small green rectangle on the left of a number plate, available only for genuinely zero-emission vehicles. It is optional, not a legal requirement, and does not change a plate's compliance with BS AU 145e.
Within the current Porsche range, only the Taycan qualifies, Porsche's sole fully electric car. This does not extend to any petrol Porsche or the plug-in hybrid Panamera and Cayenne, a PHEV still runs on petrol some of the time, so it does not meet the zero-emission bar, whatever the badge on the boot says.
Some local authorities recognise the green flash for reduced-charge parking or low-emission zone access, others do not. Check with your own council before assuming a specific saving.
Caring for your plate on a Porsche
A raised finish sits proud of the surface and takes more direct contact in an automated wash than a flat Standard plate. This matters most on the 911 and 718 range, where the tighter recess leaves less surrounding space to protect the edges. Use a touchless wash setting where possible, or hand wash with a soft cloth and mild shampoo, the safest approach for any finish. Regular gentle cleaning also keeps the retroreflective background working properly after dark.
Common mistakes Porsche owners make when ordering a replacement plate
- Ordering a raised finish for a 911 or 718 without checking the front recess depth, then finding it sits less flush than expected.
- Assuming a Panamera or Cayenne PHEV qualifies for the green flash because it has an electric badge, when only the Taycan is eligible.
- Forgetting to add the green flash at checkout, or assuming it guarantees a council benefit rather than checking local rules first.
- Not confirming drilled versus adhesive fitting before ordering, so the new plate does not match the existing mounting holes.
Road legal compliance
BS AU 145e is the mandatory British Standard for number plates, in force since 1 September 2021: 79mm character height, 50mm character width (except the numeral 1 and letter I), 14mm stroke width, 11mm spacing between characters, a 33mm gap before the age identifier, 11mm margins, and a retroreflective background, white at the front and yellow at the rear, showing single solid black characters. A raised finish such as 4D, gel or Black Diamond changes the depth and texture of the characters, not their colour, so it stays within the standard. Built correctly, that same spacing, font and reflectivity is also what keeps a plate readable by ANPR cameras.
We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e, and every plate shows our supplier name and postcode, as required.

FAQs about Replacement Number Plate for Porsche
1. Do I need to check anything before ordering a 4D or Black Diamond plate for my 911?
Yes, the 911 and 718 Cayman and Boxster have a shallower front recess than the rest of the range, so a raised finish needs to sit flush rather than proud. Check the recess, or ask your fitter, before choosing. View our 4D plates and Black Diamond options.
2. Does my Panamera or Cayenne PHEV qualify for the green flash?
No. A plug-in hybrid still runs on petrol some of the time, so it does not meet the zero-emission requirement. Only the fully electric Taycan qualifies. Learn more about green flash eligibility.
3. Will the green flash guarantee me a parking or emission zone discount?
Not necessarily, recognition varies by local authority, so check with your own council rather than assuming a benefit. Check gov.uk's current rules for the latest guidance.
4. Are your plates road legal on a Porsche?
Yes, all seven styles are built to BS AU 145e, and we are not a DVLA registered supplier, our plates are built to DVLA's published rules.
5. What size plate does my Porsche need?
The standard 520mm x 111mm size, front and rear, the only size we supply and what fits every current Porsche model.
