If you need a replacement number plate for a Nissan, whether that is a new Ariya, a well used petrol Micra or a GT-R you want to smarten up, we make road legal plates to fit every model in the current range and most older ones still on UK roads. Every plate is the standard UK size, 520mm x 111mm, front and rear, built to BS AU 145e, and we dispatch the same day if you order before 2pm.
Which Nissan models we cover
We cut plates for every Nissan currently sold new in the UK: Micra, Leaf, Ariya, Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke. The plate size is the same 520mm x 111mm oblong across the whole range, so there is no size chart to check, just choose the finish and enter your registration.
Worth flagging: the Micra badge now covers two very different cars. The latest generation is fully electric only, so a recently bought new Micra is almost certainly an EV. The older petrol Micra, sold for well over a decade before that change, is still one of the most common small cars on the road and is a separate vehicle when it comes to ordering. If your Micra runs on petrol, order it as a standard replacement, not an EV plate.
We also see steady orders for discontinued Nissans still in daily use, the Note as a used family hatchback, and the GT-R, 370Z and Pulsar, which tend to belong to owners who want the plate to match the car. All take the same seven finishes and the same size.
Fitting a replacement plate on a Nissan, step by step
Fitting is straightforward across the Nissan range and does not call for anything unusual.
- Remove the old plate, usually held by two or four screws, occasionally sticky pads on some trims.
- Check the mounting holes on the new plate line up before fixing it.
- Use screws where the original was screwed on, and good quality automotive sticky pads only on a clean, dry surface.
- Tighten firmly but do not overtighten into plastic bumpers, as this can crack the mounting point.
- Check both plates are flat, secure and not obscured by a tow bar or number plate surround before driving off.
We have not found any documented Nissan-specific fitting quirks worth warning you about, front or rear. If a screw hole does not quite line up, it is usually the bracket rather than the plate.
Which finish suits which Nissan
Every finish meets the same BS AU 145e standard, so the choice comes down to look. GT-R, 370Z and heavily modified Nissan owners tend to want more presence, so 4D Gel 3mm, 5D Gel 5mm or Black Diamond suit a car that already stands out. Leaf, Ariya and new electric Micra owners more often pick a cleaner look, Standard or 3D Gel, understated on a car designed to look modern rather than aggressive. Qashqai and X-Trail owners are usually replacing a damaged or faded plate rather than making a statement, so 4D 3mm or 4D 5mm gives a smarter finish without overdoing it.
The EV green flash option for electric Nissans
If your Nissan is genuinely zero-emission, you can add the green flash, a small green rectangle on the left of the plate. On the current range that means the Micra (current generation only), the Leaf and the Ariya, all fully electric with no petrol engine.
Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke are not eligible, even though Nissan markets some with e-POWER technology that sounds electric. e-POWER is a petrol hybrid system, the engine drives a generator that powers the electric motor, so the car still burns fuel and is not zero-emission.
Any practical benefit, such as cheaper parking or low-emission zone access, depends on the local council, so check locally rather than assuming a saving.
Caring for your plate on a Nissan
Wash the plate as part of your normal routine rather than blasting it up close with a jet wash, which can work loose an edge on any raised finish over time. A soft cloth and car shampoo keeps it clear and legible, which matters for both appearance and ANPR/MOT visibility. Check periodically for cracks, fading or a loose fixing, particularly after winter grit and salt.
Common mistakes Nissan owners make when ordering a replacement plate
- Assuming e-POWER means the car qualifies for a green flash. It is a hybrid system, not zero-emission, so Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke are not eligible.
- Confusing the older petrol Micra with the new electric-only Micra when checking green flash eligibility.
- Guessing the plate size instead of confirming it, even though every Nissan we cover takes the same size.
- Assuming a show finish is not road legal. All seven of our finishes are, but always confirm it is what you actually want.
- Forgetting to check the registration entered matches the V5C exactly before submitting the order.
Road legal compliance
Every plate we make is built to BS AU 145e, the mandatory UK number plate standard since 1 September 2021: 79mm character height, 50mm character width except for the numeral 1 and letter I, 14mm stroke width, 11mm spacing between characters, a 33mm gap before the age identifier, and 11mm margins. The background is white retroreflective at the front and yellow at the rear, with single solid black characters only. A raised, gel or diamond-cut finish changes the texture of the characters, not their colour or shape, so it stays within the standard. Every plate also carries our supplier name and postcode, as required. A plate built correctly to BS AU 145e, with the right spacing, font and reflectivity, is also what keeps it reliably readable by ANPR cameras.
We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.

FAQ about Replacement Number Plate for Nissan
Q: Are all your finishes road legal on a Nissan?
Yes, all seven finishes we sell are road legal, built to BS AU 145e regardless of texture.
Q: Does my Qashqai e-POWER count as electric for a green flash plate?
No. e-POWER is a petrol hybrid system, so the car still uses petrol and is not zero-emission. Only genuinely fully electric Nissans qualify.
Q: How do I know if my Micra is eligible for a green flash?
Only the current, fully electric generation qualifies. A petrol Micra is the older generation and is not eligible.
Q: What size plate does my Nissan need?
Every Nissan we cover, from Micra to X-Trail, takes the same 520mm x 111mm plate, front and rear.
Q: How quickly will my plate arrive?
Order before 2pm and we dispatch the same day via Royal Mail, delivery in 1-3 working days, or choose the tracked 24 hour option.
Q: Are you a DVLA registered supplier?
No. We are not a DVLA registered supplier. Our plates are built to DVLA's published rules under BS AU 145e.
